Settlement and finality
Authorising a payment, recording it as “sent” and settling it with finality are different moments. Future law must define irrevocability, finality, treatment of participant failure and protection against arbitrary reversal with precision.
From intent to final proof
Authorisation, availability and applicable rules are checked.
Where there are multiple participants, obligations may be netted or determined among them.
The state confirmed by the competent source is updated at the legally defined moment.
Independent records are compared and discrepancies must be capable of being resolved.
Technical failure cannot erase the right
Preserve state and intent
Contingency plans, alternative rails, out-of-band reconciliation and migration must preserve balances, obligations and evidence.
No reversal through technical privilege
A supplier, administrator or operator does not gain competence to create currency, choose the creditor, reverse final settlement or rewrite balances.
