In summary
The essentials
After death, personal operating credentials cease, succession begins and historical records are preserved. A persona may remain as a memorial, but it must not be controlled by third parties as though the person were still acting.
How it works
Legal death is not an interface event
Legal factEstablished physical death or a valid judicial declaration.
→
EffectsPersonal credentials cease and succession may begin.
→
MemoryRecords and any memorial may be preserved with respect for the person’s wishes, privacy and succession.
For the person
Practical consequence
Losing an account, being banned, destroying an avatar or becoming disconnected can never open succession or produce “legal death”. Sistema Candeia must preserve this distinction even in immersive environments.
Limits
Safeguards and conditions
A technical ban is not death.
Destruction of an avatar is not legal death.
Possessing the key to a deceased person's account does not authorise anyone to control that person's persona as though they were the deceased.
Constitutional basis

1Established or judicially declared deathAn established physical fact or a judicial declaration under a legal procedure.
2Death registrationThe civil fact is entered by the competent authority.
3Civil effectsPersonal credentials cease under the applicable rules and succession is initiated.
4Memory and historyHistorical records are preserved without allowing third parties to control a memorial persona as though they were the person.
