Digital preservation
Format, authentication mechanism, infrastructure and provider can age. Proper preservation maintains identity, content, origin and evidence of integrity while documenting every necessary technical transformation.
Current limit. This page describes a future constitutional policy. It does not represent an operational preservation repository and does not promise retention of documents that are not yet under official custody.

A request, report, audit or dispute changes retention duties
When a document becomes materially relevant, the body must prevent destruction, overwriting or expiry until a decision is made on the necessary retention.
Proportionate retention
Protects evidence necessary for an identifiable access request, audit, complaint or proceeding.
It is not unlimited retention
The duty to preserve does not authorise indiscriminate retention of personal data without a purpose and legal basis.
