The Assembly has not yet been established.
This page addresses the duration, safeguards and grounds for loss of office within the future Assembly.
A four-year term
Representatives serve four-year terms, with re-election permitted, subject to periodic elections and constitutionally valid incompatibilities.
The mandate does not belong to a party leader
A law may not remove a representative from office solely because the representative changed parties, disagreed with the leadership, voted independently, criticised the Government or left a coalition. The safeguard preserves genuine political representation without preventing accountability for corruption, electoral fraud or another objective ground.
Loss of office is exceptional and reviewable
Loss, suspension or permanent disqualification requires a previously established ground, adversarial procedure and effective judicial review where there is a dispute. A remediable incompatibility should, as a rule, allow a choice or correction before loss of office.
Functional immunity is not impunity
Opinions and votes made in the exercise of the mandate receive functional protection. This does not cover corruption, threats, violence, fraud or acts unrelated to parliamentary functions.
